Since we began our Lighten Up campaign, 1,200 10:10 supporters have sent messages to their councillors, asking them to get their councils to pledge to switch to 100% LED street lights.
And now, six councils have agreed to sign the pledge! Big congratulations are in order for Islington, Newham, Kirklees, Wirral, City of London and Hammersmith & Fulham. They’re joining in the movement to tackle climate change, starting by changing their street lights to LEDs. And they’re saving tonnes of carbon and thousands of pounds while they do it
But the simple act of changing our lightbulbs can do more than just save our communities money and carbon. The money saved can be reinvested into vital community services and help local families. We worked out that if every council switched, they’d save over £200 million - money that could pay for nearly half a million children to get free school dinners every year.
If all UK street lights were changed, we could save a lot of of CO2 every year - the equivalent of taking 400,000 cars off the road!
We need your help to get more councils to pledge to switch their street lights to LED.
40% of councils have plans to switch to LED. Put pressure on your council to do the same.
