As many of your will have read earlier today, fracking is coming to Lancashire.
Last year Lancashire council rejected a planning application from Cuadrilla to frack in the area. Today community secretary Sajid Javid has overturned their decision. Drilling will begin next year.
Javid has justified this decision by insisting that we have to use the resources we have in this country.
Just not on what those resources are.
The UK has the best onshore wind resource in Europe. Our solar’s great too - over the last six months it generated more power than coal. And that’s before we get on to the potential of offshore wind, tidal, hydro and biomass.
And yet, we’ve seen support for renewables cut again and again. When it comes to onshore wind energy, a myriad of planning barriers have been put in place to make it even harder. We’re told this is to put communities in control, and yet they only seem to be listening to the very small and select communities who happen to like the technologies they do. One rule for fracking, the other for wind.
Today, more than ever, is a day to stand up for your love of clean energy. Share your support now.
