Carbon Co-op believe in the power of collaboration. By teaming up with friends and neighbours, they're making it quicker, easier and cheaper to create energy efficient homes.
Carbon Co-op is an organisation entirely owned and run by the householders who make up its members. They share experience and knowledge, and work together to drive down cost with bulk purchasing.
Through their efforts they've made radical reductions in household emissions and energy bills. Is it easy? Nope. But their pioneering whole-house approach means they're already living in 2050 standard ultra-efficient homes!
"We have saved some householders over £1,000 a year on their energy bills."
- Jonathan Atkinson, Carbon Co-op project manager
In addition to their innovative Community Green Deal, which supports people who want to invest in carbon-cutting home retrofits, Carbon Co-op are also piloting the use of smart meters with up to 200 Manchester householders while expanding their own whole-house energy assessment tools to enable homeowners to understand the best route to energy efficiency. There's nothing retro about these retrofitters!
